I was born in the month of August, of the year 2001. My hometown is Santa Barbara where I lived with five other people. Unfortunately the house was getting too small so we had to move to Ventura. This is where I have lived ever since, it’s nice here because the weather does not usually change drastically and we are close to the ocean.
Even though Ventura and Santa Barbara are close to the beach I was never one of those kids that dreamed about surfing. Not wanting to surf gets my parents a little worried and kind of shocked. My mom was the most surprised, maybe because she never got that opportunity, she lived back east where it was always snowing. Given that we are so close to the ocean they could never really understand why I did not want to surf. They asked me almost every day if I wanted to take lessons. My answer was always “No”, surfing is just not my passion.
Years went by and I still did not have any interest in it. Maybe it was because I was scared to try but not surfing ended being a great thing. Instead of surfing I wound up going to the parks that the pony rides. I have always been fond of horses and how grace full and free spirited they are. The love for horses led me to taking lessons. I went through a lot of trainers either they moved away or they were not a good fit for me. When I could not find a trainer I started teaching myself, eventually I found a trainer that could help me succeed. This is when I started jumping; of course she moved as well but if she had not I would not have found the trainer that I’m with now. She has helped me come along way with my horse and how to take care of him. My trainer finally convinced me to get back into eventing and I have been a competitive horse jumper ever since. Jumping horses has been my main passion ever since.
Riding and taking care of horses led me to my dream. It has made me think of what I really want to do which is becoming a large animal veterinarian. After taking care of animals for so long it was nice to see a goal being formed. It means that I have a future in what I love to do and that I did not just do it as a hobby. It’s a lot of fun to ride and take care of horses but being able to seeing paying off by helping me achieve my goals is what’s even better.
