I grew up in a city called Ventura which is the city that has made me who I am. I was born on December 22nd 2000 which was the day that my parents lives would change. I have had many struggles in my life so far including the West Nile Virus and depression. All I remember is getting a bug bite one night at cheer practice and coming home, not really thinking much of it. Then a few weeks later i was in the hospital. My legs kept getting paralyzed and nobody knew why.
I was in the hospital for a few days when the doctors finally told me to go see a neurologist. He did a horrible shock test to see how quickly my nerves would react. That was when he told me that I had the West Nile Virus. It was a rough journey from there and it was only getting worse. The paralysis moved from my legs to my entire body and I started getting really scared.
Confusion and memory loss often comes along with the West Nile Virus and in my case it was really bad. I started missing more and more school and my grades started getting lower and lower. Finally we just decided to put me on home hospital which is basically where a teacher would come to my house and teach me all of the material. It started to get extremely difficult to remember all the material and me and my family were getting frustrated.
But finally things started to work itself out. I went back to school and my grades went up. I am still having symptoms from the West NIle Virus but it's way better than it used to be. In some ways I'm kind of glad that I got the West Nile Virus because it has made me stronger and made me the person that i am today.
