Many things are very important to me, and I thought of putting my family, my friends, or my grandfather that recently passed away. But unfortunately, those things don’t really translate into many interesting careers. Instead, I’d like to talk about music. Music has been with me my entire life, and I believe in a quote that my middle school teacher told me, which is “Without music, life would be a mistake.” - Friedrich Nietzsche. Music defines me. I dream about it, I play it, I listen to it religiously, and I love it more than life itself. With that being said, I think I am destined for a job in the music industry, whether it be a musician, a director, a producer, or perhaps a musical critic. I can write and play music very well. I can also critique and analyze music very well.
Music may actually be essential to my survival. Whenever I’m not interacting with my friends, doing anything with my family, or sleeping, I will most likely have my ear buds plugged into my ears or my Beats over my ears, either playing a hard, fiery rock song or, a relaxing atmospheric r&b tune, a chilled-out g-funk song, or either a bass-heavy club-banger or a lyrical rap masterpiece. If I’m really sad, really frustrated, or really angry, music can cure any bad feelings I have and put me in a mood where I feel like nothing is wrong, and I can be free. I also use music as an emotional parallel. If I’m sad or angry, I will listen to an emotional or dark song. If I’m happy, I’ll listen to a happy song, a chilled-out, or a high-energy song. I will either use music as an emotional link or an emotional contrast.
Besides listening to all sorts of music constantly, I think I may be made for a musical job because of my experience in the musical world. I have played the piano since I was 5, and I have played the drums since I was 10. I also (reluctantly) played in the band at Cabrillo. I didn't like my teacher at all, but I did learn a lot. He expanded my knowledge of music to a great extent. Although I look forward to doing more musical things in the future, there is not much available I would like to experience. If I see any ads for music lessons or music experiences for teens, they are for classical instruments, and that is not the type of music I’d like to learn.
Although I listen to mostly rap, R&B, or rock, I know I’d like a job in the musical industry. Music is my favorite escape, activity, and hobby, and I have a large amount of time experiencing and learning to listen and examine many different styles of music. I have considered music as a future since I started playing music when I was 5 years old. And with music striking an extremely positive chord with me when I first experienced music, I am sure that a career in the music industry is the right career for my future.
