The world I come from is a world of many exciting adventures, a city that has many great things to offer, and small family. My life has been very adventurous in many different ways. My parents have helped me shape my life from a very young age. They both have unusual and interesting jobs. My mom is a boat captain for the Channel Islands National Park. My dad works in the film industry as a director of photography. Both my parents are certified dive instructors.
I have traveled a lot in the past fifteen years. Many of the places I have gone I couldn’t have even dreamed about. At an early age, I started scuba diving in friend’s pool and then going on dive trips out to the islands. At the age of twelve I was a certified diver. After getting certified a whole new world opened up to me. We started going on bigger trips than just out to the islands as I got older. On our most recent dive trip we went to the Philippines. It was nice to see the different cultures as well as swimming in the warm water.
Not having a very big family and being the only child gives me some advantages and some disadvantages. One advantage is our neighborhood is filled with kids my age. My next door neighbors have four kids, the two youngest ones are fourteen and sixteen so I am right in the middle age-wise. When I go over to their house they take me in as one of their own. I call them my “second family.” Being around them I see the advantages of a big family and alway having brothers and sisters around for company, but with a bigger family you don’t get to travel much because of how expensive it is. Being an only child means my parents can come to most of my sports events, my school graduations, and in general, just spend more time with me.
The town where I live has many activities to offer. it is also close many great mountains like Mammoth and Big Bear for snowboarding in the winter and the spring. These places are also good mountain biking in the summer which I really enjoy. It has great beaches, mountains for hiking and biking, and many other fun things to do yet Ventura is not all that big so you can pretty much walk or bike almost anywhere you want. This city is a great place to grow up because the weather is almost always good, the sun is shining many of the days, and there are lots of nice people. I live in Ventura, California.
In conclusion, I have to say I feel pretty blessed by all the good fortune I have. There is my family, my second family, my home, and numerous opportunities to travel to other places in the world. I try not to take all this for granted and be thankful for all the awesome sunsets!
