Have you ever wondered what it was like to be young and not know what to do with your life because you were not good at anything. Growing up I was never good at anything until one day in seventh grade I tried out for softball. This is the story about how I found out what I love to do and how I learned that you can’t quit.
It all started when I was in seventh grade and I decided I would try out for softball. When I was younger I used to play but I apparently didn't like it according to my parents so I quit.I decided to tryout in seventh grade. I was so nervous at the tryout I even cried because I didn't want to go out there. These girls looked so good, what would they think of me when I went out there. Long story short I got put on the team who didn't win any games except one the whole season ,but one good thing did come out of it, I met one of my best friends on that team who is still my best friend to this day and is one of the best softball players I've ever met. The coach really did teach me a thing, didn't teach me how to throw or to swing a bat. I had to figure out everything on my own and it was very difficult. I ended up messing up my arm which I still have issues with today because I never learned how to throw properly.
Moving onto a year later I tried out again and I got on put on the team where my best friend’s dad was the coach. He taught me some more stuff and by the end of the season I could at least get the bat of the ball, I was more comfortable up at the plate, I knew how to field a little bit better. I still was not one of the best players out there, but I did get a lot off that team and the experience really help me in the next year.
The summer before freshman year my parents made me join a team for my high school, I was playing fall ball and the team was called the Ventura Cardinals. I was not stoked about this, I was very upset, I didn't want to be out there, I didn't want to play for them, I just wasn't happy at all. Now that team went through a lot of coaches and I really wasn't comfortable playing there but they did really help me out a lot and I did appreciate every coach that came and helped me out. When we did start fall ball in around September, there was this Camarillo team who did not enough players to play fall ball so they decided to join our team. This team is a travel ball team who had been playing together for a while. Soon enough the travel ball teams’ coach took over our team and we start practicing with them. I started being more happier at practice and enjoyed it more. The coach that took over team told us that if you like what he see’s over the next couple months then he would invite some of us out to play on his travel ball team called the MVPs. At first I just let it brush over my mind thinking I'm not good enough for that. Why would they want some girl who is here to play the game and is not very good at it? After a month or two of being coached by Thom, being around everyone all the time, I started to think more and more about being on the team. I really enjoyed being with them and the coaches really help me out.
Soon enough came the last game of the season. Coach Tom called me over after the game and asked if I would like to be on his team and at this point I'd never been more happier in my entire life. I just thought wow he wants me on his team, he thinks I'm a valuable player and he believes my softball career. He really brought out the softball in me, he really helped me find out that I really do love softball.I played with them for a little bit I got to play two tournaments with them. On my second tournament of the second game I was up to bat. I can be really aggressive at every pitch and unfortunate for me I took this pitch that was a little too inside. The ball ended up hitting the tip of my right thumb. I went to the doctors and they told me that the tip of my thumb was fractured and I couldn't play for 3 to 4 weeks. Sometimes I really struggled with this thinking I just want to play, I just want to play. All I could do was run and catch balls. I couldn't swing a bat, I couldn't throw ball and after a while it really got to me. I had just started practicing with my high school team for my high school season. In the end it all really worked out well because I did make JV on and I will soon be able to play again. I have been practicing for about a week now and I have never been happier. This is why you should pick me for my college because I don't think I'll ever stop looking to find new things that I love to do and won't stop until I find it.
