Growing up as a muslim in a world that believes that all muslims are terrorists because of ISIS can be hard for a young man like me. I used to stay away from my mom in public because I did not want anyone knowing who I was because I was always afraid that someone would try to do something. An incident like this changed my thoughts on my actions though.
Me, my two brothers, and my mom were at McDonalds to order some ice cream. When we got into the restaurant, we saw that there was a long line in front of the cashier. So naturally, when a group of freshmen cut in front of us, my mom went and asked them why they were cutting and if they could please go back to the end of the line. While this was happening, out of nowhere, a man started screaming at us. He started calling us terrorists and all other kinds of stuff. A little way into his screaming made the manager come out and kick him out. We got our ice cream and left.
This incident has made me into someone better. I am now confident that I will take hold of a successful future and to make a good example of myself as a muslim for all other non-muslims to see that we aren’t bad like they think we are. I will never be ashamed for being a muslim.
