My name is Adrian Esparza and I was born on September 15, 2000 in the city of Ventura County, California. I was the youngest child and my sister, Leslie Esparza was the oldest out of the two of us. I lived on the avenue until I was four and then I moved farther down by the Pepsi factory. In 2005, a flood caused by the dam in Ojai overflowed and flooded my neighborhood, causing my family to live with my uncle for a year and a half. In October 6, 2008, I was told by one of the teachers there that my grandma passed away after battling cancer for 8 years. Hearing the news caused me to go into depression for a while. During that time as well at Holy Cross, my mom had a lot of arguments with the principal because I was getting bullied. The principal would do nothing about it, which caused my mom to be upset. The arguments went up to a point where the principal threatened to fail me. That’s when I left Holy Cross to go to Ventura County Christian.
I had a great time there at Ventura County Christian, all the teachers were patient with me, and treated me like family. All was great, until 8th Grade year where my grades started dropping, and my dad finally moved out after arguing with my mom ever since I was born. That made my mom very upset. But then when I had 3 months left of school, I was able to put my grades high enough to graduate from Ventura County Christian.
Then my parents started arguing again, but this time my dad wants custody of me and my mom wants child support from my dad for my food, house, clothes, and school. I went to court and the judge decided that my dad gets me on Tuesday and Friday, and he also decided that my dad doesn’t have to pay my mom.
I’m a freshman at FTHS and I love it here. It’s the same as Ventura County Christian, but bigger. Everyone here is very nice, there’s more people to talk to, and I get to learn more. I’m trying my very best to boost up my grades. I hope that next year, that I can play soccer.
